Every driver’s insurance road is different. Whether you need a simple online renewal or want to find out about more complex coverage choices (that could even save you money!) we can help you understand your options.
Basic Autoplan
If your auto insurance needs are straightforward, we understand that – and we want to make things as simple as possible. Here’s what basic coverage typically includes:
- Third Party Liability: covers you for up to $200,000 for bodily injury or property damage to others due to an at-fault accident.
- Can increase coverage to a limit of $5,000,000 by buying Extended Third Party Liability.
- Accident Benefits: helps cover medical costs and wage loss when you, your passengers and family members are in a motor vehicle accident, regardless of who is at fault, providing up to $300,000 in medical and rehabilitation costs (including hospital care, chiropractic treatments, medication, physiotherapy, counselling, dental care, home support and wage loss of up to $740 per week).
- Underinsured Motorist Protection: provides claims of up to $1,000,000 per insured per person, if the person who is responsible for the crash does not have enough insurance to pay for your claim.
- Can increase protection up to $5,000,000 by buying Extension Underinsured Motorist Protection.
- Hit and Run: has a total of $200,000 coverage for BC residents for bodily injury or property damage caused by an unidentified or uninsured motorist.
- Inverse Liability: protects you for loss or damage to your vehicle if you are in parts of Canada or the US that will not permit you to file a claim against a driver who is at fault.

Optional Coverage
Optional coverage through ICBC can add collision, comprehensive, and increased third-party liability limits. Beyond ICBC, private insurers can provide enhanced protection.
Commercial
ICBC also offers Commercial Auto insurance. See below for more details.
Private
Every vehicle in British Columbia is required to carry Basic ICBC Autoplan Coverage, but you may take advantage of private insurers for additional, optional coverage, such as extended third party liability, collision and comprehensive insurance. See how private Insurers like Family Insurance Solutions Inc. and Stratford Insurance may obtain better coverage for you.
Collector Car
If you own a classic muscle car, hot rod, antique or custom vehicle, you need a policy specifically tailored to cover its true value. Agreed Value policies are available through ICBC and we also represent Hagerty Collector Car Insurance, a global leader in specialty car coverage.
Motorcycle
In BC, motorcycles require ICBC Basic Autoplan just like any other vehicle, but optional coverage can add collision, comprehensive, and coverage for custom modifications. Seasonal storage and lay-up periods can also save you money. We can help build a policy that fits your ride and your style.
Recreational Vehicle
RVs, motorhomes, ATVs, snowmobiles, and trailers each come with their own coverage considerations. From personal contents to coverage for recreational use to towing liability. Your broker can help sort out the details so you can hit the open road. Or trail. Or campsite…
Commercial Auto
We have decades of experience in the commercial auto insurance market. From trucks to fleets to specialty vehicles, we are here to help.
Businesses that can benefit include transport operations, trades and smaller companies. By using Fleetplan you get higher maximum premium discounts, access to enhanced financing, and simpler administration.
- Minimum requirements: you have 5 or more motor vehicles that are registered or leased to you or your company and the vehicles are primarily used for commercial or business purposes.
You can purchase insurance separately for each of your vehicles if you are insuring fewer than 20 motor vehicles and if your vehicles are primarily used for business purposes.
As of September 1, 2019 the more driver-based insurance model means crashes will now follow the driver.
- If you have an at-fault crash while driving a company non-fleet vehicle – and the first payment on that claim occurred on or after March 1, 2017 – that crash may now follow you and impact your personal and non-fleet commercial insurance.
- If you have an at-fault crash while driving a fleet vehicle on or after January 1, 2020, that crash may follow you and impact your personal and non-fleet commercial insurance.
Impacts depend on the rate class of the vehicle involved in the crash, and whether the claim is repaid.
The most common business esusing this coverage are repair garages, service stations, body shops and auto dealers.
Also known as transportation network services (TNS), ride-hailing companies connect drivers with paying passengers through the use of an online platform or app.
As of September 3, 2019, ride-hailing companies can apply to the Passenger Transportation Board (PTB) for a license to operate in B.C. (a TNS license). ICBC insurance products for ride-hailing are available as of September 16, 2019.
If you’d like to make your vehicle available for others to rent via a peer-to-peer vehicle rental online platform (such as Turo or Outdoorsy), how you are insured will depend on whether the peer-to-peer company has ICBC blanket insurance or not. Peer-to-peer rental companies are not required to have ICBC blanket insurance, so you should enquire with the P2P company directly to find out if they have it.
As of September 16, 2019, a new Basic blanket insurance products are available to peer-to-peer companies. If the company you will be registering with has this blanket insurance, you are covered while the vehicle is being rented. This Basic blanket insurance provides coverage for Accident Benefits and $200,000 third party liability.
Cost & Depreciation
Did you know, the moment you drive a new car off the sales lot it depreciates in value? If you are in a total loss accident, your basic insurance will only pay you the fair market value of your vehicle at the time of the accident. Often, this amount is thousands less than the purchase price of the car. We want to help you protect your investment, by providing you with Replacement Cost and Limited Depreciation Coverage. In a total loss accident, these additional coverages will act to cover the difference between what you paid for the vehicle and the amount your basic autoplan will pay.
To offer this type of policy, we have partnered with Optiom Inc., and the coverage includes:
Full replacement cost on newer vehicles less than 15,000 km, Enhanced Limited Depreciation on older vehicles – vehicles up to 5 model years, or newer with more than 15,000 Km, New Genuine Body Parts for vehicles up to 3 years, Deductible reimbursement, up to $500.00 for a Total Loss Claim, up to $250.00 for a Partial Loss Claim, No limit on number of Partial Loss claims and Loss of Use Extension.
