Back when hair had grease and cars had fins, Shaw Insurance was founded in 1957 by Bob Shaw, to serve the quiet farming community of Richmond BC.
In 1989, this practice was bought by Dennis MacNeill, who continued to build an independent brokerage on the values of inclusion, self-determination, and the power of individuals to grow and change.
Over the years, the company grew into a trusted regional leader that families came to rely on for knowledgeable advice and attentive service.
Customers returned to the same branch year after year, greeted by people who knew their story, understood their needs, and took pride in doing things right the first time.
One community at a time, this philosophy has led to multiple branch locations, and access to more than 120 insurance markets.
It also led to an increasingly strong network of relationships with more and more independent insurance brokers. These brokers, or ‘producers’, are the engine that drives even better customer service and more opportunities, offering a personalized level of attention with the strength of a national foundation.

July 2, 1989 Central Agencies Ltd. was formed, and was subsequently incorporated on July 4, 1989.
July 4, 1989 we acquired One Stop Insurance. One Stop was a general insurance agency, which was incorporated on July 15, 1983 by Marilyn Bevandick and operated out of 130-8040 Garden City Road, Richmond.
June 1, 1992 we relocated to the new side of the Garden City Plaza (170-9040 Blundell Rd Richmond).
April 1, 1995 we acquired Flock Insurance (140-12000 First Avenue, Steveston) from Don Hoffman.
March 31, 1998 we acquired Shaw Insurance Ltd. (95-10451 Shellbridge Way, Richmond) from Bob and Georgie Shaw.
On April 1, 1999 we relocated the office to the (brand new) Terra Nova Plaza (170-3675 Westminster Highway Richmond).
January 13, 2001 we negotiated terms with Morley Shafron to join Central as its first producer. Morley owned his own book of business, which was independent from the assets of Central.
January 1, 2004 Piloted our ‘click to renew’ website for ICBC renewals http://www.clicktorenew.com.
August 25, 2006 we opened a new office in the Ironwood Sands Plaza - 103-11020 No. 5 Road Richmond.
January 1, 2007 we had 12 Insurance market contracts and 24 MGA/Special Companies, and started to work with smaller independent agencies.
January 1, 2011 we started actively pursuing VIP Producers, and offered (and continue to offer) industry leading commissions.
September 6, 2014 we relocated the Richmond, Terra Nova office to Pemberton Plaza -1246 Marine Drive North Vancouver.
November 15, 2015 Cencal Holdings Ltd. became licensed in Alberta.
April 24, 2017 Cencal Holdings Ltd. became licensed in Saskatchewan.
July 20, 2017 secured the domain name of @brokercanada.ca
January 1, 2018 we had 3 Branch locations Garden City Plaza (Richmond), Sands Plaza (Richmond) and Pemberton Plaza (North Vancouver) and 3 Satellite offices (Oliver, Campbell River, and Nanaimo). In total we had just under 100 licensed Agents and over 100 Insurance Markets.
August 10, 2018 Cencal Holdings Ltd. became licensed in Manitoba.
July 2, 2019 we celebrated 30 years in business (1989-2019).
May 15, 2019 we relocated the Richmond, Sands Plaza office to the Langley Crossing Mall (502-6339 200th Street Langley).
August 16, 2019 we officially opened the Langley office, and celebrated with a Grand Opening ceremony
November 2019 Cencal Holdings Ltd., was officially renamed as:
Central Agencies Ltd., a company duly incorporated under the laws of British Columbia and Broker Canada Insurance Group Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Central Agencies Ltd., licensed and registered as a general insurance brokerage firm in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba with a registered office at Suite 215, 8171 Cook Road, Richmond, B.C., V6Y 3T8.
December 27, 2019 we started renovations on our Richmond location
2026 we continue to search for opportunities that will allow us to grow our business through either acquisition or alliance and will be aggressively seeking new Producers across Canada.
